Halebidu
Hassan · India
Hoysala stone-carving reaches one of its highest expressions at Halebidu, a town in Karnataka's Hassan district that served as the empire's capital from the 11th century. The Hoysaleswara Temple — a UNESCO World Heritage site — displays an extraordinary fusion of Hindu and Jain iconography across its ornate exterior panels, depicting Shaivite, Vaishnavite, and Vedic traditions alongside Jain Tirthankaras within the same complex. A Jain Basadi and the Hulikere step well are also within easy walking distance.
