Hegang

One of China's principal coal-producing cities, Hegang sits in Heilongjiang Province where the Lesser Khingan Range meets the Sanjiang Plain, with the Songhua River to the south and the Amur River forming the border with Russia's Jewish Autonomous Oblast to the north. Mountains are visible from the city, and the surrounding rivers are within easy reach. The Russian border setting gives the city a frontier character unusual for inland northeastern China.
