Hienghène Bay, on the Pacific coast of New Caledonia's North Province, is lined with eroded limestone islets whose silica cores have been sculpted by wind and water over tens of millions of years into formations locals have named the Sphinx, the Towers of Notre Dame, and the Hen. The commune sits where mountain terrain meets the water, and the wider region holds UNESCO World Heritage recognition.
