Hot Springs, Arkansas, built its identity around natural thermal springs that drew visitors for centuries before the federal government protected the area in 1832 — making the reserve at its centre the oldest in the United States, today managed as Hot Springs National Park. Bathhouse Row preserves eight historic bathhouse buildings along Central Avenue, while downtown's Art Deco hotels and motor courts reflect a boom era that also brought Major League Baseball spring training, horse racing at Oaklawn Park, and figures like Al Capone and Bill Clinton to this Ouachita Mountains spa town.
