Hunedoara

Hunyad Castle, the most important Gothic secular building in Transylvania, dominates this Romanian town in southwestern Transylvania near the Poiana Ruscă Mountains. Rebuilt repeatedly after five fires, the castle is closely tied to the medieval Hunyadi family and remains the city's defining landmark. Beyond the castle, Hunedoara has a walkable centre with parks, cafés, and tree-lined streets, and a large mountain dam with tourist facilities a short distance away.
