Inkhil
Syria
A town in southern Syria's Daraa Governorate, on the Hauran plain just east of the Golan Heights, Inkhil carries a layered history: its Arabic name is said to derive either from the palm trees that once grew there in abundance or from a Greek ruler named Ankhil, while its Roman name translates roughly as "city of gold," reflecting its role as a tax-collection centre under Roman administration.
