Inwa
Myanmar (Burma)
Inwa (also known as Ava) served as the imperial capital of successive Burmese kingdoms across nearly five centuries, from the 14th to the 19th century — seat of the Inwa, Nyaungyan, and Konbaung dynasties at various points. A series of major earthquakes in 1839 finally destroyed and ended the city's role as a capital, leaving only scattered remnants of its former scale. Today it is a day-trip destination from nearby Mandalay, where visitors come to see what remains of the ancient city.
