Isaccea

Sitting on the right bank of the Danube in Romania's Tulcea County, Isaccea occupies one of the few points along the Lower Danube where the river can be easily forded — a geographic fact that made it a crossing point between the Balkans and the steppes to the north for thousands of years. Romans, Byzantines, and successive migrating peoples all held this small Dobrudjan town, leaving it with a layered history unusual for its size.
