Itilo
Λακωνία, Μεσσηνία · Greece
One of the oldest settlements on the Mani Peninsula, Itilo sits directly on the water in the southern Peloponnese and carries a history stretching back to Homer, who named it in the Iliad as part of Menelaus' kingdom. Through the Middle Ages it was the most important town in Mani. Today it is a modest waterside village with an unusual number of churches and enough cafés and restaurants to make a stay comfortable.
