Ji'an

Jilin Province · China

Ji'an sits on the Yalu River across from North Korea, making it one of China's three major border crossings into the country. The city was once the capital of the ancient Goguryeo kingdom, and the wider region holds UNESCO World Heritage sites connected to that history. Forested mountain terrain — the southern slopes of the Changbai range — covers much of the surrounding area, and the river itself is shared with North Korea, including two large hydroelectric stations built jointly by the two countries.
