Kırıkkale

A mid-sized industrial city in Central Anatolia, Kırıkkale grew rapidly from a small village after an ammunition factory was established in the 1920s and steel mills followed in the 1950s. Sitting near the Kızılırmak River and a short drive east of Ankara, it remains a working industrial centre — home to one of Turkey's major oil refineries and large alloy-steel works — rather than a conventional tourist destination.
