Founded as "Vågan" in the early 12th century by King Øystein Magnusson, Kabelvåg is a village on the southern shore of Austvågøya in Norway's Lofoten archipelago, with mountains rising directly from the water. It may occupy the site of the first known town in North Norway. Visitors can explore the Lofoten Museum, the Lofoten Aquarium, and the Espolin Gallery, while Vågan Church — known as the Lofoten Cathedral — stands in the village centre. A college for film and other art forms, Nordland kunst- og filmhøgskole, is also based here.
