This small town in southern Kosovo set among mountain slopes, Kaçanik sits on the main road and railway corridor linking Pristina to Skopje, making it the first significant Kosovar settlement travellers reach when crossing from North Macedonia. The railway through town dates to 1879. A compact central core offers cafés and restaurants, and the wider region holds several UNESCO World Heritage sites.
