Kahramanmaraş

Kahramanmaras · Türkiye

Kahramanmaraş — known historically as Marash and, in antiquity, as Germanicea — is a city in southern Turkey at the foot of Mount Ahır, designated a UNESCO Creative City of Literature in 2025. Built on the site of the late Hittite city of Gurgum, it carries a long layered history and is known for its dövme dondurma (stretch ice cream), tarhana, and peppers, all registered local food products. The city was severely damaged in the February 2023 earthquakes, whose epicentre lay within the province.
