Kaimakli
Cyprus
Neighbourhood of Nicosia with a notably dense café and restaurant scene and a concentration of historic churches, Kaimakli carries a divided history: part of its administrative area passed out of Republic of Cyprus control after the 1974 Turkish invasion. Once known as Büyük Kaimakli — "Great Kaimakli" — it borders Omorphita, historically called Küçük Kaimakli, or "Little Kaimakli," which remains de jure Cypriot territory but de facto under the administration of the unrecognised Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
