Kaniv
Ukraine
Founded in the 11th century by Kievan prince Yaroslav the Wise, Kaniv is a central Ukrainian town on the Dnieper River best known as the burial site of Taras Shevchenko — the poet and painter considered a founder of modern Ukrainian literature — whose grave on Taras Hill overlooks the river. Chernecha Mountain, a historically significant site linked to early Cossack settlement, draws visitors to the town's elevated viewpoints. Kaniv also holds the oldest historical and cultural reserve in Ukraine.
