A coastal city in Okayama Prefecture, Japan, Kasaoka is best known as a gateway to the Kasaoka Islands archipelago in the Seto Inland Sea — a group of more than thirty islands, seven of them inhabited, reachable by ferry. Shiraishi Island draws the most visitors. The city sits on reclaimed land along Kasaoka Bay and has historical ties to the Fukuyama domain during the feudal period.
