Kėdainiai

Lithuania

One of Lithuania's oldest settlements, Kėdainiai has a well-preserved 17th-century Old Town on the banks of the Nevėžis river, with cafés and restaurants concentrated in its compact historic centre. First recorded in 1372 and granted city status in 1590, the Old Town is listed as a state-level urban heritage monument and holds four churches and an Orthodox church. The town also celebrates a Cucumber Festival each summer, a tradition rooted in the 19th-century Jewish community's cucumber trade.
