The administrative centre of Saarde Parish in southwestern Estonia, Kilingi-Nõmme is a small town whose main street retains a well-preserved row of wooden buildings that give it a distinct character. A complex of early 20th-century fire station buildings has also partially survived. The town gained its status in 1938 and sits close to the Latvian border, at the junction of two regional roads; a railway line that once passed through was removed in 2008.
