Kitee
Finland
A modest town in Finland's North Karelia region, Kitee sits amid a landscape of lakes and waterways, with water making up a substantial portion of its municipal area. Founded in 1631, it gained town status in 1992. During the Second World War, part of its territory was ceded to the Soviet Union, displacing around a thousand residents. The town lies south of Joensuu in Eastern Finland.
