Koidu, the capital of Sierra Leone's Kono District in the Eastern Province, is the country's main diamond trading centre — two of the world's ten largest rough diamonds were found in the Woyie River, which flows through the city. One of Sierra Leone's most ethnically and religiously diverse cities, with no single ethnic group forming a majority, it sits in the east of the country with mountains nearby and the Woyie River running through its urban core.
