Korsholm

Finland

This coastal municipality wrapping around the city of Vaasa on Finland's west coast, Korsholm combines a rural mainland landscape with a large, fractured archipelago along the Gulf of Bothnia. Predominantly Swedish-speaking, it is bilingual, with Finnish and Swedish both holding official status. The town of Vaasa was founded within Korsholm's parish in 1606, and the municipality still encircles the city today. UNESCO World Heritage sites lie within the wider region.
