Limeuil
France
At the confluence of the Dordogne and Vézère rivers in southwestern France's Dordogne department, this small medieval village was historically a hub of the regional wine trade, where casks were loaded onto flat-bottomed gabarres for delivery downstream to Bordeaux. Three of the original four defensive gates still stand, and the walled village structure remains largely intact. The wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites, and Limeuil is a member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France.
