Liptovska Mara
Slovakia
A reservoir in northern Slovakia's Liptov region, built between 1965 and 1975 on the Váh river near Liptovský Mikuláš, with water-based recreation along its shores and scenic mountain views in the surrounding area. Its construction submerged thirteen villages and displaced thousands of residents. On a hill above the water stands the reconstructed Celtic oppidum of Havránok, a site that predates the reservoir by centuries.
