Birthplace of Mobutu Sese Seko — the president who ruled Congo as Zaire from 1965 to 1997 — Lisala is the provincial capital of Mongala in northwestern Democratic Republic of the Congo, set on the banks of the Congo River. The city's Cathédrale Saint-Hermès serves as the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lisala.
