A modest Latvian town on the banks of the Aiviekste river in the Vidzeme region, Lubāna is a short drive from Madona and a few hours from Rīga. Its Lutheran church, built between 1868 and 1872 and successor to wooden churches dating back to 1648, is the town's main historic landmark, alongside a Catholic church and a cultural centre.
