Mabitac
Philippines
Small town in Laguna province with a café and restaurant scene that punches above its size, Mabitac also carries a notable piece of Philippine-American War history: on 17 September 1900, Filipino forces under General Juan Cailles defeated an American column here. The town's name derives from the Tagalog word for traps, recalling a time when the area was a hunting ground where indigenous hunters used pit traps to catch game.
