Mandvi
Kachchh · India
This port town on the Arabian Sea in Gujarat's Kachchh district, Mandvi has built wooden dhows continuously since 1580, making it one of the few places in India where traditional shipbuilding remains a working industry. The old city once sat within the walls of Mandvi Fort, remnants of which still stand, and the town served as a summer retreat for the Maharao of Cutch. Kutchi Bhatia merchants from here played a central role in the 19th-century clove and caravan trade between Gujarat and Zanzibar.
