Marabá
Marabá · Brazil
At the confluence of the Tocantins and Itacaiunas rivers — forming a visible "Y" shape from above — Marabá is a large city in southeastern Pará that serves as the main economic hub of the region. Municipal settlement consolidated in 1894 with the arrival of Arab, Goiás, and Maranhão immigrants, and the city gained its nickname "Son of Miscegenation" from that cultural mix. The discovery of the Carajás mineral province accelerated its growth into a significant industrial, agricultural, and commercial centre.
