This riverside town on the Baram River in Sarawak, Marudi serves as a transit gateway to Gunung Mulu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Kelabit Highlands, with the Baram River itself the main route in by express boat from Miri. Considered the cultural heart of the Orang Ulu highland tribes of Sarawak, the town has a walkable centre with cafés and restaurants, and is one of the oldest towns in the state.
