Mbombela (formerly Nelspruit), the provincial capital of Mpumalanga in northeastern South Africa, sits on the Crocodile River and serves as the main gateway to Kruger National Park and Mozambique. The Lowveld Botanical Garden, straddling the Crocodile River just north of the city centre, holds a large collection of indigenous plants including cycads and an artificial rainforest. Nearby attractions include the Sudwala Caves and God's Window, a panoramic lookout over the Drakensberg Escarpment in the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve. The city hosted matches during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
