Medina Sidonia
Cádiz · Spain
Claimed by some to be the oldest city in Europe, Medina Sidonia is a hilltop town in Cádiz province, Andalusia, with a café and restaurant scene that is well stocked for its size. Its elevation made it a military stronghold through the centuries, and it was one of Spain's most important ducal seats in the 15th century — the 7th Duke of Medina Sidonia commanded the Spanish Armada against England in 1588. Declared a historic-artistic ensemble in 2001, the town retains listed heritage architecture in its centre.
