Sitting at the confluence of the Ebro and Segre rivers in eastern Zaragoza province, Mequinenza is a small Aragonese village whose vast reservoir — the Mar de Aragón, built between 1957 and 1964 — draws rowers and kayakers to what is considered one of Europe's better regatta venues. The village sits within the Catalan-speaking Franja de Aragón strip, and its February festival of San Blas and Santa Águeda, centred on a handmade costume competition, holds official recognition as a Fiesta of Tourist Interest in Aragon.
