The birthplace and onetime mayoral post of Luigi Capuana — one of Italy's leading writers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries — this tiny Sicilian town in the Metropolitan City of Catania now holds a library and museum dedicated to him. Founded in antiquity as Menaenum, attributed to the Sicel leader Ducetius, Mineo also serves as the centre of the cult of Saint Agrippina and has several historic churches in its centre.
