Mocha
Yemen
Mocha, a Red Sea port town in Yemen's Tawiz Governorate, gave its name to Mocha coffee — a legacy of its role as the world's principal coffee export market between the 15th and 17th centuries. Ottoman law once required all ships passing into the Red Sea to dock here and pay a toll, cementing its commercial dominance before Aden and al-Hudaydah eclipsed it in the 19th century.
