Port city on Morocco's Atlantic coast between Casablanca and Rabat, Mohammedia is home to the country's most important oil refinery, the Samir Refinery, making it the centre of Morocco's petroleum industry. Renamed from Fedala in 1960 by King Mohammed V to mark the refinery's founding, the city sits within walking distance of the Atlantic shoreline and draws independent travellers passing along this stretch of the Moroccan coast.
