A town in Moscow Oblast on the historic road west toward Smolensk, Mozhaysk sits on the bank of the Moskva River close to the Mozhaysk Reservoir, with scenic surrounds and a compact centre with cafés and restaurants. First mentioned in 1231, it served as the capital of an independent principality during the 13th to 15th centuries and was awarded the title of City of Military Glory in 2012.
