Muang Sing

Laos

This mountain-ringed town in the far northwestern corner of Laos, close to the borders of both Myanmar and China's Yunnan Province, with rivers within walking distance and forested highland terrain rising steeply around it. Muang Sing has a history as a significant opium-producing area, and drug smuggling tied to its proximity to China and Myanmar remains part of its present reality — a counter-reading that shapes the character of the place alongside its dramatic landscape.
