Hasanlu Tepe, an archaeological site with some 6,000 years of history, lies just outside Naghadeh, a city in the mountains of West Azerbaijan province in northwestern Iran. The city sits in highland terrain southeast of Urmia, with Lake Urmia not far to the north. Its population is predominantly Azerbaijani Turkic and Kurdish, and the surrounding region is agricultural, with tobacco among its notable exports.
