Nainativu
Sri Lanka
This small island off the Jaffna Peninsula in northern Sri Lanka, Nainativu holds two significant religious sites: the Hindu Nagapooshani Amman Temple, counted among the 64 Shakti Peethas, and the Buddhist shrine Nagadeepa Purana Viharaya. The island appears in ancient Tamil Sangam literature as Manipallavam and in Buddhist chronicles including the Mahavamsa, and was recorded by the Greek cartographer Ptolemy in the first century CE as Nagadiba.
