Neuchâtel
Switzerland
A lakeside town in French-speaking western Switzerland, Neuchâtel sits directly on Lake Neuchâtel with vineyards in the surrounding hills and a walkable centre dense with cafés and restaurants. The castle from which the town takes its name — both the French and German versions mean "New Castle" — was completed in 1011, and the town has been a centre of the Swiss watch industry since. UNESCO World Heritage sites lie within the wider region.
