Nikisiani
Θάσος, Καβάλα · Greece
The marble quarried around Nikisiani — known commercially as Ajax marble and considered among the finest in Europe — has long been the village's most distinctive export. Set on the northeastern slopes of Mount Pangaion in the Kavala regional unit, this agricultural village sits close to the mountain and is known locally for tobacco, maize, and wheat farming, as well as livestock. Several historic churches serve a settlement of this size.
