Multicultural city in southwestern Serbia's mountain terrain, Novi Pazar is the cultural centre of the Bosniaks in Serbia and the Sandžak region, with a walkable centre full of cafés and a mix of mosques and Orthodox churches among its many protected monuments. The Altun-Alem Mosque and the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul stand among some 30 protected cultural monuments, and the wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites. The city sits on the Raška river.
