Nowshahr
Iran
A port town on the southern Caspian coast in Iran's Mazandaran province, Nowshahr has a compact centre with a concentration of cafés and restaurants alongside its waterfront. The Kajur district, part of Nowshahr County, was historically the capital of the ancient land of Ruyan and later formed part of the Safavid-era region known as Mahal-e Salas. The Alborz mountains rise close behind the town, and UNESCO World Heritage sites lie within the wider region.
