Hometown of Grazia Deledda — the only Italian woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature — Nuoro is a town on the slopes of Mount Ortobene in central-eastern Sardinia, with a walkable centre full of cafés, historic churches, and some of the island's most important museums. The town has produced an unusual concentration of writers, poets, painters, and sculptors, earning it the nickname "Sardinian Athens." Its borough of Lollove is listed among Italy's most beautiful villages.
