Þórshöfn

A small fishing village on the northern coast of Iceland's Langanes peninsula, Þórshöfn sits directly on Þistilfjörður bay with mountains close by. The harbour, named for the Norse god Thor, has served as a natural anchorage since early times and German merchants were trading here by the late 16th century. Today the village remains an active fishing and fish-processing centre, with seasonal flights connecting it to Akureyri and Reykjavík.
