Palazzo Adriano, a little Albanian-founded village in the Sicilian highlands, served as a principal filming location for the 1988 Oscar-winning film Cinema Paradiso. Established in the 15th century by Albanian Arbëreshë settlers, the village retains the Byzantine rite in its liturgy even after losing the Albanian language — an identity now expressed through religious practice rather than speech. It sits within a natural reserve in the Monti Sicani, roughly equidistant between Palermo and Agrigento.
