Papakura
New Zealand
A South Auckland suburb on the shores of the Pahurehure Inlet, Papakura has a walkable centre with cafés, restaurants, and a concentration of historic churches. The area has deep Māori roots, settled by Tāmaki Māori in the 13th or 14th centuries, and later grew as a military outpost during the Invasion of the Waikato and a hub for the kauri gum trade. The Hunua Ranges lie close by inland.
