A fishing village on the westernmost edge of Iceland, sitting directly on the fjord that shares its name in the Westfjords region. Fishing and fish processing have driven the settlement since it began taking shape around 1900, though the introduction of fishing quotas in 1990 reshaped its economy. The harbour at Patrekshöfn was created in 1946 when a former lagoon was excavated, and mountains rise close to the waterfront.
