Pilar

Paraguay

Pilar, the capital of Paraguay's Ñeembucú department, sits on the left bank of the Paraguay River at its confluence with the Ñeembucú stream, near the Argentine border. The compact centre holds a concentration of cafés and restaurants, and the waterfront is within walking distance. As the main administrative, commercial, and cultural hub of the department, it also carries a noted historical heritage, and sits at the junction of two major highways connecting it to Asunción and the Misiones region.
